Winter School

Learners from the Saturday School also attend the annual Winter School which runs for 5 days during the July vacation. Tuition is offered in the regular Saturday School subjects. Learners are transported to the campus each day by bus and are provided with a light lunch. The event is held in central Cape Town at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), which offers its campus facilities free of charge.

Apart from providing extra academic support, the Winter School also gives learners a taste of what it would be like to study at a higher education institution. It motivates them to strive for success in the fast approaching final examination and inspires them to aim for further study.
A further attraction at Winter School is a Careers Exhibition at which learners are able to discuss career options and plan for their future.

Learner Comments

I come to school on Saturdays because when I am at my school there are some things that sometimes I do not understand properly when my teacher is teaching on the weekdays. So Saturday classes are helping me because I ask my teacher on Saturday to explain to me what I don’t understand in a different way as my teacher at school so that I can understand.
