Saturday School

The Saturday School is hosted at three Centres: in Langa, Khayelitsha and Kraaifontein. The programme now registers approximately 2500 learners annually. There is a part-time staff of 46 professional and dedicated teachers, many of whom have been with the programme for over 10 years.

The core curriculum comprises extra tuition in English, Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting. The focus is on areas that learners have difficulty with and which are not covered adequately at mainstream township schools. In each subject the learners are provided with extensive, interactive learning materials.

An important feature of the Saturday School is the weekly preparation and printing of learning support materials which are distributed to each learner. This has been particularly valuable where textbooks are in short supply. Teachers in the day schools routinely make use of the ASSET material in their own classrooms.

Learner Comments

ASSET helps me a lot. I gain more information that I gain at our school. I want to pass matric so I can go to university. That’s why I come to Saturday school – to learn.
