Our Partners

EDSA – Education for Democracy in South Africa
EDSA is a small Oxfordshire-based charity whose members developed a relationship with educationalists in Cape Town in 1987. Since then they have supported us by raising funds and collaborating in various projects. We are deeply grateful for their ongoing support and always look forward to their visits and innovative fund-raising drives. Most recently, in 2007, EDSA sponsored a 5-day "Pedalling for Power" charity bike ride through the Western Cape to coincide with the annual Cape Argus Cycle Tour. The cyclists completed their trip by visiting one of ASSET's Saturday schools and chatting to our delighted learners.

EDSA have worked with us on several projects and have hosted a number of our students who were chosen to travel to the UK to represent the organisation.
Some of these past projects include the "Celebrating Diversity Project", the Matthew Goniwe & Radley College "Twinning Programme"  and the "United World Youth Conference".
Another joint project was the South African Mobile Library Association (SAMLA) which EDSA continues to fund. SAMLA was initiated by an ex-ASSET bursar with the aim of bringing literacy and the world of books to young children in the Gugulethu township of the Western Cape.

Learner Comments

It is my great pleasure to express my great thanks to ASSET for the great contribution that gave me incredible results at the end of the matric year. I have to admit things weren’t going too well at my school but the LDP programme had a great input in my progress.
